7 simple steps for a better passport photo
Use a plain background
Use a plain white or off-white background when required by your application. Avoid objects, patterns and distracting shadows.
Use soft, even light
Face a window or another soft light source. Avoid harsh side light, deep shadows and strong reflections.
Keep the camera at eye level
Keep the phone straight in front of you. Avoid extreme upward, downward or side angles.
Face the camera directly
Keep your head straight, your face centered and your full head visible. Follow the exact head-size rule for your passport route.
Keep your face natural
Keep both eyes visible and follow the expression requirement of your specific passport authority.
Keep the original photo sharp
Clean the camera lens, hold the phone steady and avoid screenshots, blurry images or photos of printed photos when an original is available.
